My wife, daughter and I ate there last week...our 1st visit. I had veal Milanese, wife had veal Sorrento ( house special and my daughter ordered a special order veal dinner-all were EXCELLENT!!! Sorrento's is small and cozy...staff was very friendly but professional. We will definitely be regulars... FYI prices were very reasonable with large portions. Limited parking in front, but ample parking in rear of building! Sorrento's should be in Federal Hill with the other great Italian restaurants. 5 Stars!!!!!

Friendly, good neighborly vibes. VERY busy place...best call for reservations or be ready to sit at the bar or wait. Excellent wines, salad, entrees. Huge portions with generous seafood portions, nicely balanced red sauce. Perfect Al debate pasta. Delicious and interesting mushroom dishes. Homemade cheesecake and key lime pie were ok, but I would not order again.

Sorrento's food is outstanding! I am giving it five stars based on the food. My wife and I went last night for the first time, awesome. We both got he chicken sorrento, it was cooked perfect you can cut the chicken with a fork. The have great bread and probably the best red sauce in rhode island. I will be a new regular face. The interior needs some work and the say that renovations are starting soon. Staff was great. This a most try

Calamari, Chicken Parm & Garlic Knots...the staples. You get those right & I will return to enjoy the rest of the menu every time. Sorrento delivered on some pretty high expectations & with it being located practically across the street from my home, there isn't a reason I can think of to not make this place a regular destination. Do yourself a favor...stop in for take out (like we did) or dine in house! You won't regret it...

This is one of those places that I had to come home and review right after trying, because it was just SO good! This is strip mall Italian food at it's absolute finest. Everything is fresh and you can tell, even a lot of the herbs. The service is friendly and fairly attentive. They know the menu well and have a bunch of specials ready to fire off at you after you're seated with drinks in hand. They've got really delicious Italian bread that comes out before the meal. It's got that nice crispy crust on the outside of soft doughy bread. Portions are HUGE. Giant plates filled with food. My boyfriend got the ravioli Bolognese special; it was so delicious and there were so many huge raviolis with a tasty cheese filling. I ordered the Chicken Sorrento and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Take chicken parmigiana and throw in some eggplant and ricotta... SO GOOD. The chicken was breaded and crispy, topped with a nice slice of eggplant and LOTS of mozzarella cheese and marinara. Their marinara is absolutely some of the best I've had.... none of that sweet stuff. It's so flavorful, chunky and very well seasoned with a generous amount of fresh herbs. On the side, they cooked my bowtie pasta perfectly al dente and topped it with even more of that delicious marinara. We've driven by here so many times and said "hey, we should try that place." I'm glad we finally did, and am happy to say that we are sure to be regulars!

My New Favorite Local Restaurant Sorrento a small Italian American restaurant located in a strip mall off busy Smith St in North Providence. The signature of this place is the fresh bread and all dishes are made to order, no pre made food here. We have been frequenting lately with the Lenten season on Fridays. They always have fresh seafood specials and the baked fish, shrimp, and scallops were fantastic. The menu has all of the other Italian staples your looking for. Tip: Try the cannellini bean app, enough for a whole meal They have a small bar area with a TV if you like sitting at the bar and the staff is super friendly. They make you feel like a close friend even from the first time I visited. Overall: Fresh delicious scratch made food at a very good value. Add in family friendly service and well made drinks and that is a winner to me. Come out and support Sorrento Thanks

Having been back at the urging of friends I was glad to find great improvement since my first visit. The snail salad was delicious and more snail than salad. Calamari ala Papa was tasty and prepared well. Veal Parmigiana was crispy and tender. Very responsible for a large group. The owner even treated us to a couple bottles of wine since we had reservations and had to wait a half hour for the previous party to leave.

Not really a review about the food because there never was any food. I attempted to make a reservation just minutes ago well actually more like 12 minutes ago. The phone was picked up and I was told to hold for a minute and with an open connection I listened to the interior workings of a restaurant for 12 minutes before I hung up. Nobody, although they were very close to the phone bothered to pick it up and say "can I help you". This place will never see a dollar from me.

My boyfriend and I eat out often. We try to find new places that we both enjoy. We were excited to try Sorrento's. We ordered take out right before closing. We had Caesar salad and chicken parm with no cheese (allergies). We had both pasta and vegetable. Everything was fresh and made to order. The portions were huge. The chicken was breaded lightly and cooked perfectly. You didn't need a knife. You could taste the fresh basil that was tossed with our pasta which was awesome because there was enough for each noodle! The sauce was so fresh (we were told it is maid daily). The veg was fresh and cooked perfectly. I can't wait to have more of the menu.

We had the best dinner tonight @Sorrento Italian Restaurant in North Providence RI. The Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was incredible. The shrimp scampi was also incredible. Now Mike made this home made strawberry cheesecake omg.... If you haven't tryed it yet your missing out , we eat once a week here now..

This is one of those places that you will want to eat more than once a week, lol. My fiancé and I were hooked after our first visit. There aren't too many places out there that had their shit together from the first week they were open, but this one did. We went in the first week they were open and we were blown away. The chicken and veal parm are so big that they can feed 3, there is no sacrifice of quality with quantity here. The food is better than anywhere on federal hill, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed. If you haven't tried it yet, you are missing some of the best Italian in RI. The chef is very accommodating to even the pickiest eaters like my fiancé and I, who have become known as "no cheese Cassy" when she orders take out lol.

My wife and I went to Sorrentos on a Friday night around 8 oclock. We had been wanting to go because we heard good things and the place didnt look bad. We could not have been more wrong. We walked in and there was a wait ( no suprise there) so we decided to wait at the bar for our table. The first bartender we saw gave us a dirty look and walked away. The second one was a guy who was very nice and got us our drinks. When we finally sat at our table and the waitress was very rude!!! Condescending tone when she answered all of my wifes questions about the menu. Then...the food. We ordered the calamari alla papa as an appetizer. It showed up after 20 minutes. I was still sipping on my watered down peach martini. The calamari was oily and gross. We then waited 40 more minutes and no food!!! We looked around and most all of the tables were already eating. All we ordered were 2 pastas!!we asked the waitress and she told us that the chef " makes everything to order" well i hope so!!! That's not the point!! Its pasta!! There was a table that got there after us that was already eating!!She said that the chef told her that we will get our food when he gives it to us. We said no thanks. We got our check and left. There was no apology...nothing. i ended up going to a local bar and ordering chicken wings and going home. I couldnt eat them unfortunately because i was throwing up the oily calamari. Chefs like this guy are exactly the problem. To much ego. The experience was terrible and we will NEVER be back. Stay away. Youve been warned

This place really could get four or even five stars except for a few veeeeerrry picky things!! First, because it is small the music comes off very loud. Just lower the volume a bit - I want music that loud I'll go to a club. Second, garlic knots are excellent and tasty, but I am one of those people who need butter and a little evoo to be satisfied (like I mentioned, I'm picky). Chicken Milanese - excellent (kind of). I'm very partial to a thin cutlet breaded and fried which this dish was. However, the lemon, butter and wine sauce was pretty much non-existent on the plate. Don't Be Afraid to spoon some over the cutlets before plating. They won't get soggy! All in all, a good meal and Shannon our server was stellar!!! We will be back!!!!

We enjoyed Sorrento very much. The food was great and all cooked to order; the service excellent and the menu interesting. I believe in supporting local business and this is only a few blocks from home. It has a nice cozy welcoming atmosphere and will handle special requests. Highly recommended!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
